Interior doors in the interior

The door leaf performs many functions: zones space, separates rooms from each other, protects heat, blocks sounds and odors. In addition, doors can be a full-fledged part of the interior, complementing the overall style. In this article we show successful interior photos with interior doors and share ideas for choosing them.

Construction type

Swing. This is our usual option, which opens outwards or into the room. It has many advantages.
Large selection of materials, colors and sizes.
Possibility to find a model in any price category.
Versatility - will fit into both classic and high-tech, depending on the appearance of the canvas.
The main disadvantage is that you need to provide enough free space for opening. In most cases this won't cause a problem, but in small apartments where every inch counts, this unused space can be critical.
Hinged canvases are classic (with platbands) and hidden (the box is hidden in the wall). The latter are definitely a trend today; they do not attract attention and look minimalist. They are often used in corridors or walk-through rooms where there are many openings.
Dimensions are determined by the number of sashes. Single-leaf models are suitable for small spaces, often used for passages to the bedroom, dressing room, pantry or bathroom. Two doors are appropriate in spacious rooms, for example, in the living room or dining room.

Sliding interior doors in the interior. For such models, the panel does not swing open, but slides to the side. Hence the main advantage is saving space, which is important for small rooms and narrow corridors. The disadvantages include expensive fittings and the need for high-quality installation: uneven walls or a crooked upper opening will not allow the structure to move.
There are different mechanisms for opening sliding structures: a visible track, a compartment, a pencil case (the box is hidden inside the wall), a folding one - a book or an accordion. And thanks to the variety of materials and colors, you can choose a canvas for any interior.

What color to choose and what to combine with

The choice of color depends on what role the door should play in the office. The opening can be hidden, made neutral or accentuated.

White interior doors in the interior are a universal option for any room and style. They do not draw attention to themselves, and if the wall decoration is also light, then together they will work to visually increase the space. The flooring can be either contrastingly dark or only a few shades darker.
White openings are suitable for modern style (especially Scandinavian style, contemporary and minimalism) and for classic interiors. In the first case, choose laconic monochromatic models without unnecessary decorations; secondly, figured carvings, stained glass windows, and decorative trims would be appropriate.

Dark models look impressive and visually make the design more expensive. This is a bold technique, especially if the interior itself is light, so not everyone will decide on it. The main concerns: too dark, it will stand out from the general palette. To prevent this from happening, use proven combinations.
Monochrome - black canvas, gray floor, white or light gray walls.
The dark brown surface will be complemented by a beige or white finish.
For wenge, light brown, coffee and the same beige shades are suitable.
Dark green, deep blue, wine will be balanced by a monochrome finish, marble or concrete texture.
Deep shades of purple (plum, eggplant) are complemented by pastel finishing colors and a neutral dark floor.

Colored doors. A bright panel may seem like too bold an experiment, but this design has many hidden advantages.

First of all, a color accent will attract attention and, accordingly, divert attention from uneven walls or imperfections in finishing. If there are several doors, they will adjust the proportions of a narrow corridor or an irregularly shaped hallway. In the same way, one bright color will visually unite canvases of different heights or widths. A pop of color will balance out a colorful, contrasting design or add color to a neutral palette. It's good if the color is repeated in some other elements - this will add harmony to the space.
